I stood at the mountain base Looking up to the very peak Sun shone on my upturned face So magestic I couldn't speak
How long would it take to reach the top I asked my awe struck mind Not waiting I took a skip and a hop On the path that would wind
Wind up the mountain so tall The tallest in all the land Not fearful that I could fall Oh, the mountain is so grand
I climbed all day into the night Then I laid me down to rest I slept until the morning light And woke in an eagles nest
Brushing the feathers off my clothes Stepping back on the winding road Taking my kerchief to blow my nose I bumped into a hopping toad
I let the toad cross my path And I continued to climb I missed my morning bath So I began to rhyme
I rhymed all day to pass the time The air was getting thinner Oh, this mountain is sublime But I have missed my dinner
I don't think I'll reach the top I said in a sweet, sad voice I think I better stop For I have no other choice
Heading back down the mountain side I was whistling a happy tune About the great ocean tide And something about the moon
I reached the mountain base Along about half passed noon With a smile on my face And whistling a happy tune.
