A Shot At Twilight (Monody) I met him in a tavern quaint He had eyes as black as sin His gaze made me feel so faint There was hair upon his chin
He followed me to the seaside We laid upon the sand He looked at me with eyes so wide And asked me for my hand
He placed upon my finger A ring so big and bright On the sand we did linger And stayed there most of the night
Just before the dawn did break In the twilight of the hour He began to quake and shake She was there with an angry glower
She shot him once in the chest With a big, old forty four He fell forward on my breast There was just too much gore
In an instant he was gone No more to breathe the air His last breath had been drawn In my tangled hair
My love is gone forever She shot him and walked away We can never be together To my dying day
How have I lived without him? He had the blackest eyes My own eyes have grown dim But I have become so wise
Don't fall in love with someone Whose eyes are black as sin For you will be the dumb one And you will never win
Someone came and shot him And I am left alone I fell for eyes as black as sin Now all my dreams have flown.
