A Child's Memory
Unchanged is this sloping, terraced hill I came as a child to sit by the bubbling rill Watching the water run over the rocks, as it does still I sat motionless in the reeds And wrinkled my nose At the king Cobra as he feeds Once I felt his wrath When I reached into a recess To pick out a pretty stone on my path I stumbled over the crags hurting myself Running from the only Companion I ever had Seeing him lying dead now makes me sad Walking away with tears wetting my face Not to return to the memories of this childhood place.
