Autumn's Trees
They stand straight and tall Though some are bent with age In October's wind their leaves fall Because they have reached that stage
They stand there with bare branches Red and gold lie on the ground below them One or two leaves cling taking their chances That they can make strong their stem
Not falling from the branch like their brothers Lying on the ground below waiting to die Cause if by chance they could have their druthers They would cling through winter and death defy
Alas, alas, the cold wind is much to strong Two leaves are falling to the group below Mother nature sent a fearsome gust along The leaves are waiting to be covered by the snow
Under the blanket of snow they will be warm Below cover through winter they will change Into something else they will transform This is how Mother Nature does rearrange
And so the trees sleep through a long dream Through a long winter's night they sleep Dreaming of spring and the sun's warm beam And the angels their watch do keep
