Cold Bare branches heavy with snow Break under the weight thereof Frightening a large black crow And a beautiful mourning dove
My tender face is white with frost From being kissed by the icy wind I never remember to count the cost When a scarf on my face isn't pinned
Now I can't feel my fingers or toes And my legs are beginning to numb I should have dressed in warmer clothes How could I be so dumber than dumb?
Nearing my house. Just two steps more I give it my all and I'm there I fall in a heap just at the door I lay there in utter despair
The door opens and I'm carried inside I am laid by the bright, crackling fire By this warmth I shall long abide And start peeling off my attire
Finally donning my winter underwear And putting my nightcap on my head Then braiding my long blond hair I say my prayers and jump in bed
I dream of butterflies, birds and bees And spring rain that makes flowers grow I dream of green leaves all over the trees And at last there is no more snow.
