What I Am I am One Eighth Native American You can tell by my cheek bones My eyes are light like the white man But my skin has red tones
My Great Grandpa Was a Frenchman He traveled to Canada land He came from some French clan But he asked for the maidens hand
Now she was a beautiful Indian girl With long, black, shiny hair And her teeth were white as pearl And he married her right there
They traveled to the united states They had four children, all males My grandpa's mate in Irishland awaits I tell you no tall tales
Yes, my grandpa was one of those four brothers And he had eyes of blue But ifen I had my druthers I'd wish them another hue
My grandma came from Irishland And fell for grandpa true She then gave him her hand That's why my eyes are green/blue
Grandma had hair of red Long and curly too And green were her eyes they said That's why mine are green/blue
Now it matters not what you look like outside But what you feel inside your heart Now the white mans ways I don't abide Their ways and mine are too far apart
For I love the land and care for it And give back if I take I never cheat a little bit And if earth hurts I ache
I am native American deep inside my heart Doesn't matter that I look white They cannot see my hidden part And now I say goodnight.
